Cllr. Leyden convened a special meeting of the Municipal District on the 26th og September 2016 to discuss and finalise the terms of the scheme which was supported by all councillors in the area.
The €85,000 fund which is open to groups in the Roscommon Municipal District is advertised in the local media this week with a closing date of the 14th of November.
Cllr. Leyden said that the fund will be welcome news to community groups in the area that have great projects in mind but were being held back due to a lack of funding support.
The minimum amount of funding that a group can apply for is €1,500 and a minimum 5% contribution from the group towards the total cost of the project is required. Projects will be considered under the headings of Dereliction, Infrastructure, Festivals and Fairs, Economic and Community Development and Tourism.
Application forms and guidelines are available from Roscommon Municipal District Office or to download at www.roscommoncoco.ie. Cllr. Leyden thanked Derek Caldbeck, Director of Services, Roscommon Municipal District and Breda Burke Roscommon Municipal District Office for their assistance in bringing the Municipal District Fund forward swiftly.
