Fantastic turnout at the Public Meeting in Castlecoote last night to discuss the threat of an Industrial Wind Farm in the area .
Huge concern locally about the devastating effects an Industrial Wind Farm would have on the community: the negative health effects with noise emissions (infra sound causing symptoms such as accelerated heart rate; increased respiration; fatigue; dizziness (vertigo); nausea (motion sickness) and headache among other things and shadow flicker which has been linked to the onset of epilepsy. Shadow flicker and noise emissions have also forced people out of their homes.
Of course there are also the negative health effects of the Pylons that go hand in hand with the Wind Turbines to carry the energy back to the transmitter.
There is the loss of amenity, loss of peace and tranquility and loss of opportunity to develop sustainable tourism.
Property values also plummet. No one would actually choose to live beside an Industrial Wind Farm & Pylons.
No area beside residences is suitable for an Industrial Wind Farm development. Wind energy is not economical to produce. We are all paying for it through our PSO levy on our electricity bill that has gone from €19.32 in 2010 a year to €80.35 in 2016. The government should remove subsidies to Wind Energy companies developing farms inland which would also reduce our PSO levy. The Netherlands have moved Wind energy off shore. The UK have ceased subsidies completely and we now have UK companies coming here to profit from our PSO Levy, to Profit from and destroy our rural communities. This is not about renewable energy - this is about subsidies.
The Government and Minister for Communications, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Denis NaughtenT.D. should bring forward new Wind Energy Guidelines that would push Industrial Wind Farms away from Residents. For example a 150 m Wind Turbine should be at least 1.5 km from a residence. This Government should ensure that No Planning applications for Industrial Wind Farms are granted until the new Wind Energy guidelines are in place, (and that the Wind Energy Guidelines are devised to safeguard communities - a 150 m Wind Turbine should be at least 1.5 km from a residence).

Please note Wind Turbines in this clip are 90 m - the proposal for our area would more likely have Wind Turbines of 150 metres ( 30 metres higher than the Spire in Dublin) - Wind Turbines in low lying areas are higher and the height of turbines has increased substantially since 2010.
